Apart for being a leading economist and a financial markets expert, Sanjeev Sanyal is also an environmentalist, promoting sustainable development and an urban theorist. His environmental work has focused on the economics of cities including walkability and organic evolution in the cities. His writings have greatly influenced the global thinking towards converting the image of India as an international investment destination. He has been one of the main architects of G20s Global Action Plan, which was used to coordinate the international response to Covid19.
He is an ardent votary of enforcement of contracts, modernising the banking sector and played a key role in the liberalisation of sectors such as drones and the geo-spatial sector. Sanyal has been an exception, of having prepared six editions of the Economic Survey of India as Principal Economic Advisor starting 2017. He was also the Co-Chair of the G20s Framework Working Group.
